If Only…

“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
Michael Jordan

Have you ever wondered, “What if?” What if I had made a different decision, what if the ref didn’t make that call, what if the coach would have started me….you get the idea.

We all have had a thought like that at some point or another, but I want to challenge you to think differently.

Rather than “What if?” think “If only!”

Whether you are in the middle of chaos, a transition, a situation out of your control, or at a moment of peace; life can come at you quickly and hard! Obstacles, hurdles, difficulties, setbacks, unforeseen circumstances, all have a way of popping up at inconvenient times in our lives.

So how do you experience and navigate those moments?

Let’s learn to practice “If only”!

Identify the specific situation, obstacle, or circumstance that you are in right now.

Ask the question if only…and then finish the statement:

– I would be better at my job if only…
– I would be a better professional athlete if only…
– My performance would improve if only…
– I would be better prepared for life after sport if only…
– My relationship with family would be deeper if only…
– I would have a healthier financial retirement if only…

Now here is the secret, taking that same statement, remove the “if only.”

One easy step!

You have created a strategy, idea, thought, game plan, or at least a direction to take the next best step to help you navigate the circumstance. This simple thought change doesn’t take away or change your reality, it does help you reframe what is going on in your world.

Change is good, it means you are given the opportunity to grow, learn, and improve. Make the most of these transitions, and seize the opportunity today!
