What is Truly Holding you Back?
“Whether you think you can, or think you can’t you’re right.” – Henry Ford
In recent years due to several injustice movements, athletes are now shifting towards recognition, realization, and actualization. Athletes are using their platform to speak up and stand up for what they believe in.
Taking a stand forces us to dive deeper into who we are and what we value. This reality also leads us to uncover limiting beliefs that we have about ourselves, our world, sport, and many other aspects of our lives. As an athlete, your sport was your safe space and you felt most alive, at your best when you were competing.
That is usually why your identity is so closely tied to your sport. When your beliefs were developed, they focused on sport and your involvement in those athletic opportunities. One of the key questions you have to ask yourself now and throughout your athletic career is:
“What happens when those opportunities, your sport, are no longer available?”
When you no longer walk into a locker room or onto a court or field and when no coach is encouraging you, helping, guiding, or inspiring as you compete? How will you respond within this new arena?
In Chapter 14 of SHIFT, we dive deeper into those limiting beliefs that are holding you back or limiting your perspective and impact around you. The final step in SHIFT, Take Action, you are exploring the beliefs you have internalized for years, even to the point where you may not even recognize you have them.
So what do you do with these limiting beliefs?
Within this chapter, the 6-R Cycle is introduced. This process will help you identify the limiting beliefs in your life and replace them with new beliefs about who you are, strengthen your new beliefs, and build upon them as you continue to move forward as you grow in self-awareness and navigate new territory in this world.
The 6 R Cycle:
Your transitions are opportunities, seize them!
