Who are you listening to?

“Show me your friends, and I will show you your future!”

Coaching matters!

Agreed?!

As an athlete, your coach creates the environment for you to be successful in your sport. There is vision, challenge, wins, loses, championships, training, practice, and their voice speaking into your life.

There is something powerful knowing that you have someone in your corner, supporting you, encouraging you, championing you, and drawing out something inside of you that you didn’t quite see yet!

Great coaches bring out the best in their players!

So what about you?

Have you ever thought about being a coach for your life? Well actually, you are your own coach and you have the opportunity to put your team together.

People and those around you are speaking into your life, not just your sport, but your life off the field and away from the competition. Whether you acknowledge it or not, what happens off the field and away from competition affects how you compete, how you train, and what your performance on the field goes.

So what are the voices around you saying?

As a coach for your life, here are 3 keys to building your team:

1 – Silence the noise and voices.

Limit who speaks into your life. Don’t jump on IG, Twitter, Hinge, or wherever you go for social media and absorb everything that people are saying. You have a choice of who you are listening to, choose wisely!

2 – Don’t settle for who is near or familiar.

Early in life, you have your parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. around you. Honestly, it is difficult to move on from those relationships that are known and familiar. The idea that it’s better to dance with the devil you know than the devil you don’t know.

Well, why not choose to not dance with the devil and find someone else to dance with?

Just because they are family, a close relative or friend, or a former coach doesn’t mean you have to keep them close and give them the opportunity to continue speaking into your life. It may be difficult, but boundaries are created for a reason. Set boundaries and make the choice, even if it means initiating a relationship with someone new. It’s ok to move into new territory and spheres of influence.

3 – Search for others with common goals and purpose.

The African proverb shares, “to go fast go alone, to go far go together.” Find others that share your goals and purpose. When you are with others, making a difference and changing your world becomes more fun and enjoyable. There is something special when you look to your left and right and see like-minded people pursuing the same purpose, and your impact and influence are multiplied through the process! Don’t go alone, go together!

What will your future hold? That is what you have to decide. What I do know is that the depth, impact, and extent of purpose are greatly impacted by those who journey alongside you. You are not alone, I am on this journey with you and so are others around you. So choose wisely who you are listening to, and go further together!
