Who Are You?

Sort of a funny and interesting question that you may or may not ponder each day, or even often. Yet, it answers one of the more significant questions that someone must answer about self, your essence as a human, and fully what makes you, well you.

And at the core of that question, who are you, is your heart. In Chapter 4 of SHIFT, you will discover and clarify the COR (Latin for the heart) of who you are.

Interestingly, what keeps your heart pumping metaphorically, and possibly physically, is your why. Your why brings about passion, desire, willingness, and action.

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” – Oscar Wilde

When you take a step back and think about who you are, your talents and abilities, the color of your eyes, your fingerprints, personality, when and where you were born, life experience, and a myriad of other aspects and realities.

You are unique!

There is no one else in the world now, in history, or into the future like you. How cool is that!

When you understand and grow in your self-awareness, you begin to clarify what drives you. You may have some similarities to others, but you are uniquely you.

So how do you clarify or begin to know your why?

Great question!

Here are 10 Questions to guide you toward identifying your why today:

  1. What are the things you enjoy doing?
  2. What drains you rather than fuels you?
  3. Where do you feel most at home? What type of environment or place provides you with inspiration or energy?
  4. What has been shared with you that resonates as true?
  5. What attitudes or behaviors are so natural to you that you do them without thinking, and time passes by?
  6. What dreams have you dreamt that you can’t forget? They may not be at the forefront of your mind, but they come to mind consistently over the years.
  7. For what problem, issue, or cause do you want to be part of the solution?
  8. What are your natural talents, or what comes easily for you?
  9. Take an assessment (strengths finder, enneagram, Meyers-Briggs, etc.). What does it say about you?
  10. Who do you feel most connected to? What types of people do you feel drawn to serve or support?

Growing, learning, maturing is a life-long process, and as you change, aspects of your life also change. So, it is ok if you why today is different from your why 10 years ago, and it is ok if your why changes or shifts to something new in the future.

Your transitions are opportunities, seize them today!
